NIOS for Class 12 Failed Students in 2021NIOS is a National Board under the Government of India which facilitates examinations for secondary and senior secondary. NIOS also offers various vocational courses after school. The Department of Human Resource Development (Government of India) established the National Institute of Open Schooling. Under this, students from various Education Boards can sit in the re-examination and get good marks and make their future brighter. NIOS allows one to take a direct examination in class 10th if one has done a basic elementary education and class 12th if one has passed class 10th or any equivalent of the same.

National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) conducts Senior Secondary examination twice a year, in March/April and in October/November. This year, NIOS Class 12th exams for April 2021 have been delayed due to postponement. 

  • The exams are held in Gujarati, Hindi, English, Urdu, Bengali, Tamil, Punjabi, Odiya, and Sanskrit medium.

To be eligible for NIOS 12th exam 2021, students have to meet some minimum requirements set by the National Institute of Open Schooling.

The eligibility criteria for NIOS 12th exams are given below:

  • The student must be passed the secondary class (10th) exams successfully.

  • A student must have attained a minimum of 15 years of age to be eligible for NIOS 12th exams 2021.

  • The student must produce a class secondary pass certificate from NIOS or a recognized board, an address proof and two latest passport-sized photographs.

  • The student must be enrolled with NIOS.

  • A student who already passed the class 12th exam and wants to improve their marks also has a chance. Through the NIOS board, these students are also eligible for this course.

  • 11th & 12th fail from other Board (CBSE or any State Board) Students can apply.

NIOS has closed the registration window for October 2021 NIOS 12th exams. Students who wish to appear for NIOS class 12th exams for April 2022 can fill NIOS registration form until September 15, 2021. They can apply for NIOS admission in online mode by following the steps given below:

NIOS registration 2021 is conducted for class 12th in streams as given below:

  • Stream 2: For students who failed in the exam conducted by recognized boards.

  • Step 1: Visit the official website.

  • Step 2: Click on the 'Register' button and read the instructions given carefully.

  • Step 3: Click on the 'Proceed' button.

  • Step 4: Select your state.

  • Step 5: Select the identity type (Aadhar card/Passport/Ration card etc.) and enter the number of selected identity type. 

  • Step 6: Under course, select 'Sr. Secondary'.

  • Step 7: When the application form loads, enter basic and optional information, select your subjects and study center.

  • Step 8: Upload your scanned photo, identity card, and other documents (Caste certificate, class 10th mark sheet etc.).

  • Step 9: Tap on 'generate OTP' and enter the OTP, received on your phone.

  • Step 10: Review the NIOS application form before submitting and making payment by choosing a particular payment gateway.


NIOS provides sample papers/previous years' question papers for the students to be able to get an insight into the type of questions asked. Students preparing for NIOS Class 12th examinations

should take the help of the NIOS 12th sample question papers and practice them while preparing for the exams.


The NIOS exam papers come in two languages Hindi and English. You will have the option to choose the medium of examination at the time of registration. So, you can also choose your regional language. The NIOS board will give the question paper in the language of your choice.

  • Students are required to choose a minimum of five subjects.

  • Every candidate must select at least one language subject or at most two language subjects from Group A.

  • The remaining three or four subjects should be selected from the other groups.

  • For the Senior Secondary Level, students can choose only one subject from each of Group C, D, E, and F.

  • Candidates can choose two additional subjects if they want. This means a maximum of seven subjects is allowed.

At the Senior Secondary level, the subjects are divided into two groups, Group A and Group B, Group C, Group D, Group E, and Group F, as detailed below:
